Virtual RFID Tunnel
Situation Today
The currently available UHF Gen2 technology makes new applications that require huge reading ranges possible, e.g. at shipping gates in warehouses. In addition it is possible to reliably record a high number of tags simultaneously because of the energy efficiency of the technology. These positive characteristics permit high-performane identification of packing units, and their contents, during transport on conveyors in conveyor systems. The allocation of single components to their packing unit is often difficult.
Solution
The commonly confined spatial conditions present great challenges to RFID-technology. One of these challenges is the exact allocation of single units to their packing units. Enso Detego therefore developed the “Virtual RFID Tunnel”, a reliable solution for this problem. With this “Virtual Tunnel” projects have been realised in the fashion industry. With it up to 50 components can be allocated clearly to their packing units, without reading packing unit tags. The distance between the packing units on the conveyor should be at least 50 cm at a conveying speed of up to 1m/sec.
Another function of the “Virtual RFID Tunnel” is the distinction of UHF-tags which are read in the immediate proximity of the conveyor from those which are actually transported on the conveyor.
This function allows the successful handling of the phenomenon of “false positive reads” known in this industry especially with regards to UHF-technology.
The whole solution is realised with standard RFID-components, light barriers and suitable Software-Logic using detego You-R OPEN. For specific client applications the experts of Enso Detego are available. The solution can be carried out with one or more antennas, depending on the distance, reading and space requirements, in order to achieve 100% reading accuracy.
